3 peaks in 12hrs
Hiking mt Charleston alone is a good conditioning run; 20-degree cooler temps, trail has a gradual rise over run, and not too far outside Vegas. But when combined with 2 other peaks shared on its range, it becomes a climbing journey for the entire day. Mummy's Tummy and Griffith Peak add good views, ridge-line routing, and both have survey markers/registers. N Loop & S Loop trailheads are connected by a 1 mile stretch of pavement.

Last Local Hike as a Local
Awesome pot luck lunch hike organized by Tom Hawley. Not sure what there was more of - good weather, good food, or good company. 4 hours to summit via Trail Canyon/NLT and 3 hours down via SLT - new personal best for me.

Magic 3's?
Third time to reach summit (and third attempt). This time it was part of a 3-summit day with Mummy Mountain and Griffith. Done as part of training with Las Vegas Mountaineers Club.

Loved the hike
Along the meadowy ridge to the summit. Found the summit to be anti-climactic though. But a very nice day.

Need to do it again!
On the day we hiked up Charleston, the sky was murky with high clouds, obscuring the distant views. I definitely want to do this one again to get the brilliant views that I saw from Griffith and Mummy Mountain on later trips.

Las Vegas' baldy
Climbed up from both the South and the North. They're both great and have their own personality; The South has more overlooks I'd say. Trail canyon is nice way up too and you can loop over to the South so you don't have to shuttle.

South/Trail Canyon
Have been up a number of times via south/north and up over big falls. Have attempted as day hike in winter but was unsuccessful.

1 day summit
I started at the South Loop trailhead around 11:15am, group break at the saddle (10,000') at 3:30pm, then I summitted at 5:15pm. After a nice 20min late lunch on top in light winds and 55F temps descended with 2hrs hiking in the dark. Down at 9:15 just when the 1/2 moon was rising! Spectacular views, an old aircraft wreckage, and nice ridge trail.

Training Run
We ran up the South Loop and came down Trail Canyon. I think my total moving time was about 4 hrs. Super high winds on the top, probably pushing 60mph gusts, so it was nice to get off the top and headed back down.

South Loop / Little Falls Canyon Route
Day 4 of my AZ/NV HP trip. South Loop TH / Cathedral Rock Picnic area was closed so I started up Cath Rock trail & took a wrong turn at the junction with SL trail. This trail led me past one spring and to a second where the main trail abruptly stopped and a steep use trail started up the east side of the ridge west of Mazie Canyon. About 500' up there is one mildly confusing spot where the game trail is more prominent than the use trail, but game trails traverse and rarely climb so just go up and you'll regain the use trail which is well ducked and leads you through 3 cliff bands to the top of the ridge just above the main SL trail. This 'path' that I found on accident gains about 2400' in 1.5 miles, but saves about 3 miles and is far more interesting.
Enjoyed the bristlecones, meadows, summit views and plane wreckage. Tagged Griffith on the way back down the SL trail. Great trip overall!

GF working, I'm playing
The girlfriend had to spend a week at the Bellagio so I came out to play. Did the SL up and the NL down. I was surprised at the amount of contouring and how much time you get to spend up high on this loop. Took 8 hours and 15 minutes car to car with Griffith added in. I followed a blood trail almost all the way down the NL. Someone lost a lot of blood and it looked fairly recent.

beautiful day
did it with Moosetracks and a bunch of others as a dayhike on a beautiful winter day.
A fantastic snow climb (slogging up my waist is FUN???) up the east face with a great group of people. Almost no wind at the top, as if we were meant to be there. Sierra views.

South-to-north loop
It was a nice area, and a fun stop on a long drive. The summit was disappointingly trashed with various instruments, though, and super-windy.
