Checking out Dog Lake

Eric and I were discussing the name of this lake and how Dog Lake doesn't allow dogs, even on a leash. Of course the reason is that this is Salt Lake City watershed but shouldn't the name of the lake be changed?? 3-20-10

Dog Lake

I’ve seen lots of dogs swimming in Dog Lake during the summer months. The lake has no surface outlet. It’s just that you have to stay on the Millcreek Canyon side of the ridge instead of Big Cottonwood Canyon. The name refers to “Dog Fish” which is what early Mormon pioneers called salamanders that they saw at the lake.
