Cime de la Bonette

Cime de la Bonette

The highest road in Europe, over the Col de la Bonette, two hours north of Nice, makes a loop around the Cime de la Bonette, where it reaches its greatest height (2802 m/9309 ft.). From here the peak (2860 m/9502 ft.) can in normal conditions be climbed in 20 minutes, but with slippery melting new snow, as here in late September, it took a bit longer.

Re: got to like...

Yes, it is not much of a climb, but the view is quite impressive on a clear day.

Re: I did it

Great, you must be in good shape! I hope the weather was clear! I can imagine what it must be like to coast all the way down to St-Etienne! (If you crossed the col.)

Ejnar...

Back in my seafaring days, our ship
visited Nice in 1978. Nice was really
nice, and I didn't realize at the time
that it was so close to the French Alps.
Now, I have been transformed into a
land lubber. Great photo, Ejnar!!!

Re: Ejnar...

Icarreau,
Thanks for the comment! Many people get quite surprised when they hear how close to Nice the highest road in the Alps is. Not without reason are they called the Alpes Maritîmes!

Re: Ejnar...

Thank you! I always wondered where that
name originated from. I need to start
studying my geography a little bit closer!
