Decent hike through a diverse forest, but disappointed to share the summit tower with maybe 50 other people. That and the loud road took away from this one. 7 miles out and back on the AT from Fork Ridge.
Visit to the Great Smokies!
Very windy but a beautiful sunset viewed.
Note: USGS Marker is at the end of the parking lot - BELOW the high point.
very refreshing. beautiful views for the seconds the clouds parted
Completed this during the pandemic. Road to the dome was closed so hiked/ran the road to the summit, watched the sunset and ran down in the dark. Did this with my 2 20 something children so it was a very special day.
Drive up then mile or so hike. Nice views, cool crisp air.
visited this on a beautiful sunny day in the Smokies,
Climbed this with my boyfriend. Highpoint #13 for me and #2 for my boyfriend
Easy 1 mile RT walk from parking lot to my 17th State HP. Summit was obscured in clouds and a light rain.
Had the Summit to myself, and my few friends (maybe 500 or so)
Too bad it's so touristy. I stepped off the paved trail on to the AT to cross the highest point on the AT and although it was like I-95 on the paved trail not a soul was on the AT.
Did this as part of a two week backpack of a section of the AT before there were such things as through hikers and trail names. We had the trail to ourselves until we came to Clingman's Dome. Alone again after Newfound Gap.
Third of five in a highpoint and whiskey trail driving vacation. Fantastic hike on the AT from the Fork Ridge Trailhead parking lot. Happily there was some visibility from the tower ... just stunning!
It was a picture postcard day. Just perfect. The views were just incredible...
Although I could have easily hiked less, I managed to eek out 6.1 miles hiking from the parking lot to the top of the tower and back via a little of the Appalachian Trail.
Drove up here and hiked a short distance to watch the sunset. VERY CROWDED and touristy! But the sunset was absolutely breathtaking.
1rst summit I did at sunset...gorgeous! 2nd summit I did along my AT thru hike in 04/2017 and it was really crowded which I suspect is common
