US State Highpoint 7/50

On a steady roll here, one a day. Rode motorcycle to parking lot, walked the nice trail, went up the flying saucer. Very nice setup, pretty everything including views, not particularly an adventure. Mostly fog except for a 15-minute spell of clearness.

The Great Race for Six State Highpoints

Not only did we get Clingman's Dome but we walked over to Mount Buckley as well. Loved experiencing these beautiful mountains.

Drove up and birded the pleasant but steep pitch to the flying saucer. Track here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S47859671. Some day we will need to hike it from bottom to top to really make it count.

Got the pregnant wife up for a completely fogged in summit with no views! Fast forward to 2021 and we were rewarded with expansive vistas of the Smokies.

Quick Visit in Heavy Fog

Heavy fog, very little visibility in late morning. Good to stretch the legs nonetheless.

Cool views on the way up and down but very rainy/foggy so very limited/no views from the top but still a cool hike!

Highpoint #17

Decent hike through a diverse forest, but disappointed to share the summit tower with maybe 50 other people. That and the loud road took away from this one. 7 miles out and back on the AT from Fork Ridge.

Clingman's Dome Summit edit

Completed this during the pandemic. Road to the dome was closed so hiked/ran the road to the summit, watched the sunset and ran down in the dark. Did this with my 2 20 something children so it was a very special day.
