This is not South Notch. It is the first potential "obvious notch" you see once at the south end of Amphitheatre Lake. Let's call this "Wrong Notch #1." We climbed into it a bit, looked down, and decided it would be impossible to rappel onto the snow slope with a single 60 meter rope from here. It's the kind of notch an extreme skier would enjoy, but not one that a weary climber would want anything to do with!
