Cone Peak Trail  Sucess!

Twin and Cone Peaks on an overcast but delightful day. Few flies, no ticks. Good use trail between Cone Peak Trail and Twin Peak across the SW Face of Cone. Thanks to Robert Parks for the information, who I met at the end of the Cone Peak Rd the night before. Trip Report.

Great views!  Sucess!

Climbed 3 times so far. I loved the Stone Ridge Trail loop through goat camp and vicente flat. Beautiful terrain!

Nice scenery  Sucess!

Pictures on this page made me determined to see snow and the ocean here in one view, the snow wasn't fresh but was just enough to satisfy.

Hike was easier than the drive  Sucess!

Got the Camry stuck (and eventually unstuck) on the way there, but still made it to the top!

Cone Peak Trail  Sucess!

Trail is easy and well-maintained. View from the top is superb. We scrambled up the rocks on the SW face; I was surprised to find several hundred feet of good rocks to climb below this peak.

Crisp autumn day  Sucess!

Nice little consolation prize on a stormy weekend in the Sierras.

Easy Hike, Great Views  Sucess!

I've bagged this peak too many times to count. An easy hike with well maintained trail from the Coast Ridge Road. The Peak is usually well above the coastal overcast for superb views.

From Kirk Creek  Sucess!

Hiked to summit from sea level (Highway 1) over the course of two days, with a night at Vicente Flat. Cold (low 30s F) on the summit!

Twisted hell...  Sucess!

outa my ankle loading the van for the trip to the Santa Lucias but it was ok the next day. Big old views high above the socked in Pacific coastline!

From Naciemento-Ferguson Road

Cone peak road was closed, so hiked the 5-ish miles to the trailhead, topped out mid-afternoon with outstanding views of the Big Sur coastline. Didn't want to come down!

Nice warm-up  Sucess!

Nice warm up hike for other trips in the area.

Via the standard route from Coast Ridge Road in a bit over an hour each way. Gorgeous, sunny day and spring flowers in over abundance.

Cone Peak Trail  Sucess!

I made the quick hike up with my two dogs on a cool, clear evening. The views did not disappoint me!

Easy Hike Up Cone Peak Trail  Sucess!

Drove up Cone Peak Road 5.1 miles to the marked trailhead (next time I'll park at the first turnout at 4 miles and hike the road to the trail, as the road gets tougher to drive from there). Had a couple visitors from the East Coast, and the views did not disappoint. Clear day, almost no fog, incredible views!

North Ridge  Sucess!

Hiked all the way up Cone Peak Road (6 miles), then about 0.75mi into the Ventana Wilderness, then cut west up to North Ridge, scrambled it all the way to summit.

Generally rotten rock, but at least the brush at this elevation wasn't bad and there appeared to be a use trail in places. Kept it to class 2-3-ish bypassing some of towers. Descended via the summit trail. ~13 miles / 3000' for the day, which was clear but windy (a storm passed through yesterday).

In past years I've come up via Cone Peak road or Trail Spring numerous times. Always a fun way to top off a trip to the south Ventana !

Easy Summit Gone Bad!  Sucess!

Summitted despite some of the worst insect swarms I've ever experienced. Should have brought a drysuit and a motorcycle helmet.

Cone Peak Trail

Nice and easy hike up along the Cone Peak Trail. Simply spectacular views of the Big Sur Coast from the summit. Hiked in spring when the ticks were out in full force - pulled several off of me along the way up.

Climbed Successfully  Sucess!

The climb itself it quite easy...the road to the trailhead was a little more difficult! Great view, worthwhile hike.

Twin Peak and Cone Peak from Vicente Flat camp  Sucess!

Headed up Stone Ridge to Twin Peak then ridge-whacked to Cone Peak, back down to Vicente Flat. Cross-country was not bad and the views and wildflowers were gorgeous.

My brother moved to Guam...  Sucess!

...but when he was at the NPS, I was grateful to have someone so close to hit the Ventana with!
