Cracking icefall at La Gouille

Cracking icefall at La Gouille

Cracking. Literally. See that big crack, not far below the top? That was only a small fracture a few days ago! It's definitely not safe to climb anymore... 11 March 2014.

Re: Crack!

This change was only over 5 days. But frankly, with the high temperatures for early March during that period, we wouldn't have been surprised if a big chunk of the icefall would have come down altogether.

Re: I need to ice climb

I live in Amsterdam, flat country all around. A nice place to live I must say. If only we had mountains, it would be perfect... As it is, there is no chance to climb anything except artificial. For any serious climbing I travel abroad.

Mind you, we do get ice around here some winters, but that's the flat variety, on lakes, ponds and canals. Last winter wasn't cold enough, but if it happens lots of people go ice skating.
