a terrific report Bob.... awesome information and photos of a place that's practically in my back yard. I've paddled those waters many times yet learned so much from this... let's get out and do it together this spring!!!

You're on! That would be much easier to work out than a Shenandoah outing, too. With two cars, maybe we could shuttle between Fisherman's Eddy and Angler's Inn or even farther downstream. I hear there's a put-in a little past 495 off the Clara Barton.
Of course I have to vote for this, because Bob is an elf. Ha ha!
But seriously, I've long pondered how to combing cragging around Lake Mead (NV/AZ) with kayaking. You might replace a 120 mile drive, much on iffy roads, with a 3 mile kayak trip... or not. The winds and waves are pretty bad for most non-motorized forms of open-water travel.
I too am a Whitewater Kayaker. This looks like a great idea. The Royal Gorge of the Arkansas here in Colorado has lots of climbing spots and most easily accessed by kayak!

Re: Spent .....Thanks for checking it out. If you ever find yourself back this way again, I've got a boat to spare or you can have someone to chew out on a climb!

Catfish...that snake is braver than me... I wouldn't eat anything out of the Potomac.

I like...I like your thoughts about parenthood...specifically that you didn't go from 5.4 to nuthin', but 5.4 to 5.2. :D

Re: LakesThat stinks to know. One of the appeals to me about our possible move to Vegas last year was kayaking on Lake Mead.
