Why'd I wait so long
to do this one? I have no idea. Was great. I can see how it would be overgrown in Spring or Summer but it was really nice to do this one in Autumn. Windy from the meadow on up, very windy at the summit. Could see from Hood to Diamond Peak and everything in between. Great Fall colors. Blue skies and crisp air. Suh-weet!

Beargrass
I have never seen so much beargrass at one location! Great view of the Cascades... from Mount Adams down to Diamond Peak.
Nice...Don...! I'm glad you enjoyed your run. Next time continue along the ridge to the northern summit. I've never seen more "rubbings" (where elk rub the trees with their antlers) in such a small area as the north summit.
How were the wildflowers on the south slope...?

Well worth the effort!
This was one of those "let's see where this trail goes" kind of trips and we were much rewarded for our efforts. It was a hot day, over 80 degrees at the trailhead, but only 70 or so on top with clear skies in all directions. Some surprisingly large old growth firs and hemlock along the way and at the top a magnificent 9 mountain view! (Adams, Hood, Jefferson, TFJ, Washington, all of the Three Sisters, and Diamond Peak). Another 30 identifiable peaks, too, of coarse, such as Mary's Peak, Black Butte, etc., etc., but to see 9 snow caps in one panorama is pretty neat. 2 hours up, 1:25 down.

Except for the hanging fog blocking the long distance views, this hike was pleasant. Because of the large open meadows on the south slope, I'll come back next spring. As I was nearing the north summit I found a five point elk shed. It was in mint condition. Second one I ever found. As I carried it back 5.5 miles, I couldn't help but think...."I wonder if a hunter would shoot an elk wearing an orange hat"...

Main trailNice hike to the summit. Saw the biggest ant hill near the summit. Also some tasty looking mushrooms were lingering in the valley.
