Solid day hike. The ledge provided some awesome photography. Not quite as challenging as any of the three saints, but a good one to accomplish in San Gabriels.
Easy morning hike with Abbey.
the view into the LA basin is impressive. Quite a bit of vertical relief. Icehouse canyon also pleasant. Still some snow up high but avoidable.
Climbed in that mine. pretty dope
Pretty busy day today. Good thing I started early. A bit overcast, so views weren't stuning
Super windy once I passed the saddle, however it provided great views!
On June 6, 2016, I along with hundreds of other Angelinos hiked to the summit of Cucamonga Peak via Icehouse Canyon. At least there weren't the thousands of Angelinois almost certainly pleasant on nearby Baldy. The hike was beautiful, starting out in a shady canyon with lots of deciduous trees, and eventually ascending to the San Gabriel Hike Country with great views of Baldy, Ontario, Telegraph, and other peaks.
with Bighorn and Ontario.
Nice hike, love San Gabriel Mountains.
Took the ski lift up with a group, then bagged the Three T's before Cucamonga Peak, descended via Icehouse Canyon.
Via Icehouse Canyon/Cucamonga Peak Trail. Had one solo climber ahead of my daughter and I on the way up and met one guy coming down. We were at the top for a bite and pics while a few small parties arrived. Passed about 15 folks on the way down before reaching the IHC saddle. After that we had to crowd surf our way to back to the parking lot. Great weather, quiet for 3/4 of the time and a great break from the Baldy crowds.
My son Daniel and I left the heat in the southern California basin and enjoyed cool temperatures the way to this always enjoyable peak with amazing views.
Cmarie and I did it from Icehouse Canyon TH, our first trip into the San Gabriels.
Seems like every time I go up this peak, it's in a storm. Trail was clear to Icehouse Saddle, snow climb from there. Stuck to the trail as much as possible, then went straight up near the top. Complete whiteout at the summit, again. Wind made the stay very short. I will get to see the views eventually!
One of many trail runs this year in prep for Onion Valley to Whitney run.
Single day winter solo.
i love endurance hiking. however, my body really wanted to quit half way between icehouse saddle and the peak. it felt like altitude sickness but i wasnt that high. i dunno, it was weird. nonetheless, i pushed onward and the view at the top of catalina and the entire la area was well worth it.
Decided to try for the summit with a snow storm still loitering around. Put on crampons from Icehouse Saddle and continued to summit with fog rolling in. Fabulous views from the summit were denied, but it was still a great workout.
Another fun hike via Icehouse Canyon TH. Despite it being the 405 of the SGWA, Icehouse Canyon has sooo many great hikes you can do.
