It's easy to get to by only using public transport. We started in Quito, bused to Otavalo, another bus to Quiroga, then took a pickup to the trail. The trail is nice, but the last hour was just on a dusty road. I think I was spoiled by Quilatoa, because I just wasn't as impressed here. Too much man-made stuff in sight. It took us about 4 hours to get around.
wonderful views, and rich flora
Hiked around the lake.
Beautifull trail around the crater lake. We had some amazing weather and really good views of the surrounding mountains of Imbabura, Fuya Fuya and cotacachi. The trail is in perfect condition.
Hiked the whole crater rim with 35 guys from England. Greeeeeat weather. 2 and a half hour-hike.
Nice views of the northern side of both ranges.
Hiked with 5 European folks from Poland, Belgium and Holland. Perfect weather and trail conditions. Met with many hikers on our way. We are ready for Fuya Fuya tomorrow.
Total hiking time: 3 hours.
I stayed at the cabins on the crater rim (15USD), had a beautiful sunset from the roof of the restaurant with clear views of Imbabura, Fuya Fuya, Cotacachi, even Cayembe. Went around the lake the next day with more clouds. Probably the nicest crater lake I've seen.
Hiked with Liba (CZ). We started at 12 pm from Los Pinos area. Awesome views of the lake and the surroundings. Got to the trailhead at 4 pm where our truck driver was waiting for us.
Got to Quito by night, a couple hours before Liba's flight back to the USA. I enjoyed it!!
Hiked with Kit (Denmark) and Thomas (Germany). Great weather. We completed the whole loop in 3 hours 15 minutes. Stunning views of Cayambe, Cotacachi, Fuya Fuya, Cerro Negro, Imbabura and Cotopaxi.
Got back with another group of Austrians later on the same afternoon. We had a boat tour around the inner islands.
Hiked with Coral (USA). We hiked it in 5 hours... mostly because I get to learn the names of the flora of this region.
We finished the hike at 5:00 pm. An interest hike with good weather.
Hiked the whole Cuicocha crater rim counter clock wise with Andreea (ROM). We had awesome weather. Great views of Cayambe, Imbabura, Cotopaxi and even Chimborazo in the distance.
Great views of the surrounding mountains. We took many pictures of flowers during the hike, and guess what?.. we (Boriss and I) didn't pay for the entrance :).
Very enjoyable hike.. the weather was with us!
I did it with bad wheater, raining a lot... but great trip
Christine (USA) and I started our hike at 9:00 am. Very windy at the begining of the hike, but the weather got better as soon as we got half way of the trail.
The trail is in perfect conditions!
Great views of Imbabura, Pichinchas and other mountains as well of the lowlands.
We finished the hike at noon. Total hiking time: 3 hours.
Beautiful day to hike the well maintained crater rim trail. I hiked with Janna (GER) and Barbara (GER).
We started the hike by the southern Trailhead. The trail was pretty dry with only a few spots of mud. We got halfway the trail and to the highest point (3,200 m) after half an hour of hiking. The three of us finished the hike at the Reserve entrance after 3 hours 20 minutes of hiking. Pretty fast ah?
Nice views of the surroundings from up there.
Hired a truck from the town of Quiroga to Cuicocha. Short walk to the restaurant on the hill and a boat tour to the couple of small mountains in the center of the crater.
It is easy to see bubbles coming out of the water, showing the activity of this volcano. The boat driver (native guide) has good knowledge of the crater and surroundings.
Nice sunny day.
Beautiful trail with view on surrounding volcanoes.
Sun and a few clouds around.
