Wow, I haven't finished reading this epic just yet, but so far I am blown away. What a trip, and what an exceptionally detailed write up, please, keep 'em coming!
Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was too in depth/long, so its good to hear that the additional detail is appreciated. Later this summer I'll be submitting a similar style of report for my Denali trip (also of that year).
I'm glad people are seeing it as thorough rather than obsessive ;-)
Actually, since I knew so little of the route, I had to do a lot of research to piece it together, so I'm happy to put this information up for others to use. I've even shared the excel file of the route with some friends interested in cycling sections of it.
But a great looking TR -- it'll take me a while to read the whole thing but WOW! Looks like an awesome adventure!! That rainbow photo is pretty damn amazing.
Well persevere - I think some of the best stories are in the middle and end! As for the rainbow, it was surreal. It really pays to keep your head up on the trail :-D
I had only heard of a couple of cases of people doing anything like this, and I was surprised how well it came out. Apart from taking much longer, it seems like a much nicer way to go hiking and scrambling. Hopefully when times are slow for you the report can provide some inspiration/ideas for getting in 'trouble'.
I've just finished a quick first overview and I'm stunned by what I see. What an amazing idea and your sense of adventure is impressive! The amount of information you have assembled here is valuable and your photographs are fantastic. Have you thought of writing a book about this trip? Cycling / Scrambling. I like it!
Thanks!Probably one of the more difficult parts of the trip was dealing with so many unknowns and building everything up from scratch, so I'm happy to help fill in these gaps for other mountain rompers.
Photos - Thanks again! Although it seemed excessive at the time, boy was it worth it lugging my DSLR along all the way.
Book? Well it sure is long enough to be a short one! I don't know - maybe if there's enough interest out there. I've had some other ideas for some other books (including a mountaineering guide), but I have no idea how easy it is or what process is involved in doing this. Something I should really begin looking into now that I'm finally done with grad school. :-D
As I mentioned to you earlier, I've been reading this report during my lunches at work. I finished it yesterday and felt a little bummed out that it was over. Now what am I going to have to look forward to at work? I guess I'll have to find something else. Anyhow, I just wanted to say thanks for all the effort you put into the report so that we could make the imaginary journey with you. Actually, even though I hadn't read the whole thing yet, seeing this TR was one of the things that gave me the idea of my Colorado trip last year. I liked the idea of doing something each day without much time to rest. Although that trip was on a motorcycle rather than a bycicle. I made a short trip report.
