Decades of effective fire...
Decades of effective fire suppression has resulted in an increase in tree regeneration in these more open, dry forest types. Historically these slopes would have been more open with occasional large trees and very few if any young trees such as those thickly covering the ground in the sunlight on this photo. September 2005
