The dilemma is I don't know what species of Prickly pear this is, growing
on the south rim of the Grand Canyon near Desert View above the shadowy abyss.
Flowers of the
Desert Prickly pear are typically yellow, but sometimes colourful variations may occur and are not rare.
The prickly cacti spines were used as toothpicks by Native people.
At that time, large amounts of venison (deer meat) and corn crops were
consumed, and an implement for picking one's teeth became quite useful.
