Finished off our four peak day with Desolation. Love the views down Big Cottonwood from here. Was tempted to head toward Murdock but decided to turn around and call it a day.
Watched the sunset from here, nice views of Desolation Lake!
Several times, including in winter.
Hiked up from the Canyons. Fun little ridge near the top.
Great turns off the top, assisted by the canyons lifts...
Hiked it in July with my good friend Ash. Lightning in Big Cottonwood when we reached the summit
Camped the night before at Lake Desolation. Great place to camp! Headed up to the peak first thing in the morning.
Part of my early morning trip across the ridge.
Climbed with the WMC as part of a BCC super loop.
I've been on top of this little peak many times, today being about #5 or so. I like the ominous warning sign posted there for skiers, a warning that YOU CAN DIE when plying out-of-bounds areas! Starting a climb at Bear Trap Fork makes this peak a natural to bag before heading to Silver, etc.
up & down via Mill D North. Also explored ridge above lake separating Beartrap & Mill D N.
07/16/2011 Traverse from Mt. Olympus, Bear Trap Fork descent
07/08/2010 Running Wasatch Crest trail from Scott Hill
7/16/11 - My first time on this peak. Via Petes Rock (Wildcat Ridge) with a descent down Beartrap Fork.
I have often enjoyed the view of the lake while having a snack when biking the Wasatch Crest on this peak.
7/22/11-Made sure I went to the top on the way to Silver Peak.
8/19/16 - Biked up Mill D and hiked Deso/Silver Peaks.
Especially in what's called "west Desolation." Very nice touring area that takes a bit of a hike to get to and usually doesn't draw big crowds.
Climbed up Scott Hill from the Guardsman Pass road. spent a night on top of Scott with perfect weather. Then hiked down the ridge, checking out the views from 10009, Silver, and Desolation Peaks. Then hiked down the Desolation Lake Trail back to where my truck was waiting.
After work hike of Desolation Peak and Silver Benchmark from Beartrap. RT time of about 2 hours.
While doing the Wasatch Crest trail. I love the views from the top.
8/24/11- Part of a 24 mile 8300 ft day that started in Lambs Canyon.
A quick hike/snowshoe up this one and Silver BM. Pics, map at http://www.willhiteweb.com/big_cottonwood_canyon/silver_benchmark/desolation_peak_404.htm
