Devil's Thumb Rock

Devil's Thumb Rock

I know, this isnt the most interesting pic, but its good for route info. This is the rock pitch on the ridge to the summit of Devil's thumb. The route we took goes up the left corner. Taken 03-20-2006.

Question...

...I assume that your route goes past the small tree and stops where the tracks stop at the base of the rocks. My question is could the rock section be avioded by going to the left more and then up the snow slope? Or is there some hazard that I am not seeing?
BTW, nice pic.

Re: Question...

Our route followed the snow on the left edge of the pic, next to the rocks in the forground and then straight over to the left edge of the rock. Maybe in the right snow conditions, one might be able to climb the snow. When we were there there was a very large moat on that side, you can see some holes next to the rock in the pic. There is also some very great exposure down that slope, about 1000 ft. Thanks for the question.
