Difficult Pass

Difficult Pass

This is the precipitous Rock Reef Pass in Florida's Everglades National Park. It took everything out of me to reach this summit. Though I nearly died, the satisfaction of this triumph made it all worthwhile. Its not for the faint of heart, be sure to plan and prepare long and hard before you go. (in case you can't read the small print, it says: elevation 3 ft (0.9 meters). November 2000

Someone Has a Sense of Humor

It would appear whoever put up that sign has a sense of humor! Of course, the Everglades shouldn't be discounted--there are some pretty rigorous hiking "trails" if you're willing to get yourself wet and brave the 'gators and croc's!

I Hope You Don't Mind

mrh--Someone was complaining on another group (JK-Forum, for 07 Jeep Wrangler owners) about how flat FL is, so I linked this image into a response there. :-)

No problem. I'm pretty easy about photo use around here.

Oh my God!

I've seen so many pictures of formidable rock walls, enormous and seemingly invincible mountains and breathtaking wilderness areas in the United States, but this just outdoes it all! I never knew there was anything of THAT sort of a dimension in the U. S. - with such an extreme exposure, hanging glaciers and overhanging cliffs that make the Alpamayo in Peru or even Mount Fitz Roy dwindle into complete insignificance! I can't find any words to tell you how much I admire you for having tackled this giant, even though, as you say, it was by a narrow margin...The risk you took was surely an enormous one!
