A nice approach hike.

I never even got on the mountain - got sketched on some steep loose rock and snow trying to cross the pass.

My problem was that I brought my comfy 4lb tent and extra food, then saved weight by skipping crampons and ice axe. That meant only late afternoon snow was passable, when it softened enough to kick steps. Now I always err on the side of caution when it comes to technical tools.

On the plus side, just the hike to the pass is incredible. Beautiful alpine meadows, snowfields, glaciers, and jagged peaks in all directions.
