Final part of our acclimatization program before attempting Incahuasi.
Probably one of the most tiring climbs I ever made in the Puna. A very long walk from the car we left on the track at approx. 5100m. Nothing but loose rocks and strong winds. Fantastic views from the summit over El Condor & Peinado.
Nice fun climb. Two days earlier on San Francisco I felt extremely weak, but this climb I felt much stronger. It's a fairly long walk from Paso San Francisco, but the terrain is diverse and the routefinding provides an interesting yet manageable challenge. The wind was extremely powerful on both the summit and the puna, but there were some protected canyons along the way that were completely still. So it's not 6000m, who cares, Dos Conos still serves as an excellent acclimatization hike or provides a respectable objective in its own right. For what it's worth, I climbed the higher, eastern, and arguably easier of the two summits.
Reached the summit with fellow Alpine Club of Canada (Montreal section) members Charlotte, Dan and Nicolai. Sunny day with winds up to 90 km/h.
