Druid Peak from the Southeast

Druid Peak from the Southeast

Druid Peak is famous as the home of the Druid Peak Pack, the largest and most aggressive of Yellowstone's wolf packs. It's seen most commonly from the southwest, near the Yellowstone Institute. Here's a different angle of the same peak - - another one of Yellowstone's peaks without a page on SP. Photo taken in late September 2007.

Where from?

If the ford of Lamar is a no-go, this is a viable alternate, as it seems doable in a day.

Re: Where from?

Definitely doable. I've stared at it a while and haven't found any apparent problems. Let me know if you find any.

The problem is that it's subject to frequent wolf closures -- always in June. There's a den up there but I don't know where. (Wolves aren't dangerous but I'd rather not test that belief by walking into an active den.)

Re: Where from?

I'll establish myself as the alpha male and tell them all to heel.

I figure I would take the southwest slopes up; looks pretty simple.

Now I am considering ways to adjust dates so I can do Druid and Amethyst. A nice mix-- a trail hike and an off-trail summit that's not too remote or dangerous (since I'll be alone).

Re: Where from?

Tell the rangers to heel too, since you're in a high-use area.

Agreed on the SW slopes. I don't know what talus and scree is likely to annoy you up there, though.

Bring back pix!
