So i was driving back from another climb and I saw this truly epic looking peak on the north side of hwy 2 that i had never noticed before, so that i could look it up later i noted that i was just driving past a sign for the Skykomish River. Could this have been Eagle Rock? based on my map the hwy only crosses the river once, or rather twice in a short span, and there does not seem to be any other likely peaks in that direction, Eagle Rock just seems smaller than what i remember.
I'm assuming you were driving westbound on US2, and noticed a prominent peak on the north (right) side of the road shortly after passing the town of Skykomish. In that case, you were probably looking at Mt. Baring - I don't think Eagle Rock is visible from anywhere on US2.
I could be wrong, but i think Baring is much further west of where i was, and i think i would have recognized it anyways. the only other options seem to be Beckler Peak or Mt Fernow and neither seems to match what i saw. next time i'll just have to pay more attention.
Beckler is a nice hike (new trail recently completed), but it's anything but "epic looking". Fernow is a surprisingly prominent peak that deserves more attention, and can look impressive from the right angle. As a climb, it's a fairly simple class 3 scramble.

Locked GateFound a locked Gate leading up to the TH.
Location: 47.74551, -121.33507. 8.5 miles from TH.
Time: 15:53 on 9/6 (Tuesday).
Might have just been active logging operations going on or something? Saw two contract trucks leaving on my way up so unsure what they were doing.

Re: Locked GateWas it possibly related to firefighting activity in the area?
