Early morning view of Kathmandu from the roof top of the Hotel Eden located on Freak street. This Hotel offers one of the best views of the Kathmandu skyline. Because of recurring earthquakes most structures are not high. In the middle of the image the wood and brick pagotas are in front of Durbar square (meaning meeting place). These were damaged and repaired after an earthquake in the early 1990’s. The white buildings are old Palaces or residences of the Prime Ministers at the turn of the century now occupied by the army. I cannot remember the names of the peaks in the distance. Ganesh Himal or Langtang Himal come to mind. If anyone can name these I would appreciate it. William Marler 1982.
