East Face Direct

Kevin jumping the bergshrund at the start of the climb. I saw this photo and thought, "Oh man, those are my new BD strap-on crampons that I loaned him for the climb". East Face Direct - Mt Borah, Idaho Sept 24, 2011

Actually

That's a randkluft, not a bergschrund

Re: Actually

You are correct sir. That's a snowfield and not a glacier. Idaho's only known glacier (The Otto) existed on the north side of the mountain but was gone by 1990. A recent geological study only found snowfields in Idaho but no true glaciers. In the 70s this snowfield started at the tarn and when bare of snow was solid blue ice, maybe 100' thick at the bottom.
