East Ridge

Shirley changing over to approach shoes just below the Wolfs Head - Overhanging Tower notch following our last rappel. This is the typical weather that hit us on every descent - the time of the day is about 4 or 5pm (August 4, 2004).

You too, huh? :-)

This is how things looked for us just about everyday last summer when we were in the Winds.

Re: You too, huh? :-)

Oh yeah,

almost like clockwork - getting hosed EVERY afternoon we were there. The only question was how severe was the rain going to get on a given day.

Got tired of it a few days earlier than we expected.

Still, a great area.

When in the summer were you there David? Wondering if there's a drier month or it's just a crap shoot always.

Re: You too, huh? :-)

We were there around July 4 and climbed Gannett. We got hit with just about everything--snow, rain, hail--every day. There was still a lot of snow on the ground. Stunning area, though: kind of like the Sierra on steroids, but without the crowds or red tape hassles. The crappy weather does make climbing long routes challenging though.

Cirque of the Towers is on my short list of places to visit. I'm trying to persuade a friend of mine to go backpacking there this summer. I probably wouldn't do any technical climbing.

Shirley Rocks

Every time I go to SummitPost to look up a cool route, there's Shirley! LOL. Looks miserable in this shot though.
