Nice 4th of July hike.
Old Mount Lowe Railway, short and sweet.
One of the busiest trails I've ever hiked, but the history is interesting. The hotel must have been gorgeous before it burned down.
Not exactly a true wilderness experience, with traffic approaching 5, 10, or 101 status and occasional power lines, but still truly beautiful, and almost sublime with the fog covering the San Gabriel Valley.
Did this one in 2012 with my fiancé and now wife. From Rubbio Canyon TH we took a wrong turn and scrambled up Altadena Ridge which made it exciting. Took the regular trail back down. Great to read up on the history of the area and see what remain today. Date is approximate.
Good introductory trail. Lots of traffic on it, and it's difficult to get lost on it.
The trail up to this mountain is usually crowded with many people, including runners and dogs, because it is so easy. Better to keep going up to Lowe. Made it here in an hour. Kept going up to Lowe. Been here several times.
This hike was just a few miles away while on business in CA so I took a quick run up at the end of the day. Sky was hazy, making it was hard to really see far.
First peak of the day that included a loop of Echo Mtn., Muir Peak, and Brown Mountain.
First hike with my wife.
I hiked Echo Mountain for the first time in Sept/08. As my first peak ever bagged, I can say the view was stunning and the top was enthralling to reach. Having hikes Echo at least 50 more times since then, I can still say that this is a fun, challenging, and enjoyable hike that leads to longer hikes if you want to go past (e.g. Mount Lowe, Inspiration Point, Markham, Disappointment, San Gabriel, Muir). It's about 2.6 miles up and 2.6 down the same way with a consistent but not overbearing incline. The hardest part is the first mile.
Stopped by quickly to take in the views on the way down from Mt. Lowe.
LPC peakbagging fun. Trip Report.
Straightforward power hike, good Sunday afternoon workout. Nice views from top.
Hot day, but easy hike! Lots of people enjoying this trail; talked to quite a few friendly hikers along the way.
Excellent hike to Echo Mt. Very popular trail for the locals.
Super easy hike, pretty cool history and remains of the old buildings.
Took the Sam Merrill trail to Echo then the long way to Inspiration Point(Echo Mtn trail to Mt. Lowe Road). Did Muir Peak before heading down the Castle Canyon trail back to Echo Mountain. Lots of folks on the trail! Got stung by a bee on my ear!
Stopped by on the way to Muir Peak. Nice Saturday morning
I've never continued running up to Inspiration . . . but hope to try that one soon (it looks steep).
