There are enough up and downs on this hike to up the elevation gain (factoring in both ways) to at least 3000 feet. Carry enough water as there is none past the river (filter if you need it) and plan on 3 to 4 quarts for moderate temp. I wouldn't want to do this one in the summer, May was hot enough.
