Dayhike  Sucess!

Dayhike up French Creek. Was hoping to fish the creek but the elevation didn't provide for any larger pools. We essentially took the most direct route up and found some fun scrambling to be had near the peak. Wonderful views up top in all directions on a very clear, windy day. On the way down we tried our hand fishing in Echo Lake and my buddy caught one pretty fish! Think I may revisit when I come back for Old Man Mountain.

4WD Variation  Sucess!

The 4WD route was gated, and I checked for alternate connections shown on the TOPO without any luck. Hiked from the gate at elevation 6200, followed the road up to the split described by Lincoln, 2.3 miles up. The road was not drivable due to a giant man-made berm about 1 mile up that would bottom out most vehicles. At the 2.3 mile marker we took the left turn steeply uphill, this route is not on the TOPO. This led us directly up to the north ridge. This track showed signs of vehicle use in the past, but make no mistake if the road were clear this route should not be driven. It was great for hiking, though, taking us up to 400 vertical feet below the summit. We followed the north ridge all the way to the summit, this was fun, class 2/3, a couple of false summits along the way. On return we dropped off to the west slope and stayed below the ridge as we circled back to the steep road. This was much faster, although I recommend doing the ridge traverse if you like rocky scrambles! Thanks to having to park at the gate we totaled 8 miles / 2100 feet of gain, if you can drive up to the junction as others have done you would be looking at 3.5 miles and 1100 feet of gain RT.

Private 4WD road  Sucess!

Hiked up from the private 4WD road that Lincoln lists. The logging road itself was in much better shape then the main road from the reservoir but I got stopped 2 miles in where the loggers where using the road to drag, strip, and stack newly cut logs. Easy hike from there with none of the brush I was expecting.

From Catfish Lake  Sucess!

A short cross country walk up to some fun rocky bits at the top. Great views of the area and only one small snow crossing after a dry winter.

NW Ridge  Sucess!

Used Pete Yamagata's directions. Lingering soft snow required a little circumnavigation.

4WD Road + NE Ridge  Sucess!

Hiked up the 4WD road from Meadow Lake Road with Anna; there were man made obstructions so it couldn't be driven at the time. The NE Ridge was fun but short, maybe class 2/3.

4WD road  Sucess!

Took the 4WD road most of the way to the summit. My wife stayed mostly in a good mood while helping to dig out my car on the way down.
