Evolution Lake and Region

Evolution Lake and Region

The Evolution Region is perhaps the most beautiful area in all the Sierra, excluding only Yosemite Valley. This Lake sits at 10,566 feet, and the entire area is found in the north end of Kings canyon national park. The John Muir Trail passes directly through this photo, on the right, and ascends to 12,000 ft Muir Pass, about 5 miles ahead, left of the snow-covered peaks in the rear (a spur of Mt Goddard. This area is generally accessible only by backpacking into the range, but (theoretically) it can be reached in 1 day via Lamarck Col, on the east side of the range.
