Fantastic Geology in Convict Canyon

Fantastic Geology in Convict Canyon

This shows what Convict Canyon is famous for and what makes it very unique and picturesque. Fantastic exposed geological features like this are your constant companion further up the canyon. Unlike most places in the High Sierra, many rocks in Convict Canyon are meta-sedimentary belonging to the vast Morrison Roof Pendant (metamorphosed sedimentary rocks overlying the Sierra Batholith). These rocks are of paleozoic origin and among the oldest rocks found in the Sierra Nevada. October 22, 2010
