Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outYes, the warm summer has taken its toll. I didn't cross any snow patches at all in getting to the summit. Your picture shows why that ridge is called the Wedding Cake, complete with the white icing.

Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outThat's a great metaphor ! But I wasn't aware that the whole ridge was called Wedding Cake, just the peak in the lower left of your photo. Are the maps wrong ?

Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outRob,
That close one is Wedding Cake? Jeez, I coulda made it to that one but I was busy wondering which was the summit in the cluster further away.

Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outSamantha - yes, WC was definitely a fun bonus. The maps don't show a name for that far cluster though - perhaps just Peak 2708 (meters) ?
Looks like maybe it might be a fun scramble from Bear Valley Meadows / Papoose Lake though. Something I should do next summer.

Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outRe: the cluster, I was thinking "if that's Wedding Cake, that's one messed up cake!"

Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outYou are right Wedding Cake is at the lower left. I think that is Mount Hilton at the far end of the ridge. I still like your photo with the icing better.

Re: looks like the ridge has pretty well melted outDennis I think you're right about the farthest peak on the ridge - probably Hilton (I figured Samantha was talking about the cluster between there and WC). It sounds like Hilton is only about 9m lower than Thompson. Wonder if the best way to get there is via Boulder Lakes ...
