Female catkin of the Osier

Common Osier (Salix viminalis) is a species of willow native to Europe and Asia. In the Low Beskid it is the most common near wet places like streams or rivers. The flowers of Salix viminalis are catkins and are produced before the leaves appear in early spring from March through April. Common Osier is dioecious, which means that male and female catkins grow on separate plants. The male catkins are oval-shaped. The female catkins are longer and more cylindrical.
