First View of Birkenhead Summit

First View of Birkenhead Summit

Once above the "steep dirt gully" section of the standard approach, we were able to finally see the true summit of Birkenhead Peak. The hill to the upper-left of this photo is not the true summit. Instead, the true summit is the smaller-appearance point sticking up from behind the small unnamed glacier seen in this photo. The reason for this view angle is because of the winding, serpentine-like series of connecting ridges leading to the summit. The view of the summit and peak can greatly change as the perspective along the route changes. Photo taken on September 7, 2013.
