Flatiron + bonus level  Sucess!

I've done this hike before, up to the unamed peak at least, so I knew what to expect on the front side. However I've always been tantalized by Superstition Peak lingering just out of reach so the East. I descided to start early, travel alone, and push hard to hit that peak. For the record, hiking round trip to Superstition Peak from Siphon Draw is not a hike for the faint of heart. Enjoy!

Hotiron, I mean Flatiron  Sucess!

Started hiking Siphon Draw around 6am and probably could have started earlier. Pretty damn hot by the time I finished around 11am and there were people just starting out!

Siphon Draw and Pt. 5042

The view from the Flatiron was great and the scramble to the higher peak just as good! Amazing views and a surprisingly steep hike.

Absolutely amazing  Sucess!

Absolutley amazing. I rode a bicycle to the base of this mountain from Los Angeles. Its an easy scramble to the top (provided you bring a lot of water). The views are outstanding. Easily the best view in Phoenix.

Siphon Draw  Sucess!

First mountain I ever climbed. My brother and I camped on the flatiron, with great views of Phoenix below. A wonderful climb!

Lovely area  Sucess!

Great hike. I was doing a solo drive between grad school and work, and this was right outside Phoenix. And they had FREE SHOWERS at the base! Arizona state parks are where it's at. This also started about 3 days of fantastic wandering up the Salt River and doubling back west, eventually making Flagstaff.

Great hike! Not as beautiful and green as last year, but still worth it. I recommend going as earlier in the morning as possible, the trail gets extremely busy by 10am. You want to be down by then.

Great fun and great views  Sucess!

This was my first climb in the Superstitions. It was outstanding! We wrapped around the base of the Flatiron and only climbed the last 100 yards of the Siphon Draw. Enjoyed the climb down the Siphon Draw.

We summited the Flatiron first, then the unnamed peak to the north.

A great way to spend the last day of the year. I went with Darren & Steve-o. The sky was overcast, but we still got killer views. Not crowded at all and the temperature was perfect! Moments like this make me miss my home state.

Great morning hike! This is my first spring in Arizona; I couldn't be more impressed. The contrast between the red rocks and wildflowers is astounding. The majority of the draw is class 2 with sporatic sections of class 3.

I summited the Flatiron first, then the unnamed peak to the north. I began the hike around 7am and never saw anyone else on the summit. Yet on the way down around 10am I passed about 40 people heading up the trail. Moral of the story: start early or this place is a zoo!

Absolutely breathtaking views and scenery reward you once you climb to the flat top of this bad boy. Its arduous in that its practically straight up, but even though your thighs will burn, it will be well worth it

To date I have completed this hike/climb three times. The views from Flatiron are great! Highly recommend the hike. Even though it is close to the city, it is remote and difficult to access. Be Careful! I have a hiker/climber rescued out of there and it is a very difficult area to rescue somebody!

This was my first trip in the Superstitions. The views were great. The scramble up Siphon Draw was increadible. I not only did the Flatiron, but the 5,024 foot high point. I got stabbed by a yucca plant near the top comming down.

Great Day...Perfect weather...

Saw it all ! ! ! Both summits, side trail of T38 Wreakage, and even a helicopter EVAC navigating the narrow canyon walls to rescue an elderly woman w/broken ankle.

The views from both summits are stunning, and I would love to camp up there a night...(hauling all the gear up that steep slope would be a nightmare though...)

Travel light and bring lots of water....

I could have done w/o the crowded trails, but what can you expect from one of the best summits in Phx area on Saturday....

What a hike this was! I'm in not the best physical shape, and this hike sure reminded me of it. Although I was exahausted afterwords, it truly was a great experience that I am glad I undertook.

Like most others have noted, this hike is pretty easy for the first 1.5 miles...Once you get to the smoooth reddish rock bowl (a.k.a. "Waterfall"), the fun begins. The last mile to the summit fork trail, is demanding. Not only do you have a pretty steep grade, there are also lots of rocks to navigate. Follow the white spraypainted dots and you should have no problem finding your way to the top.

To get to Flatiron's summit, take the dirt trail at the top of the suddle to the right (you can't miss it). For extra fun, take the trail to the left (instead of right to Flatiron). This will take you to another summit which is 100+ feet above Flatiron and has great views of the northern and eastern parts of the mountain.

2 or 3 inches of snow on top of the Flatiron - it's a real winter wonderland, desert style!

I've climbed to the Flatiron - and the actual top of this part of the mountain, 15 minutes higher - many times. I hiked this 9.5 miles across the entire Superstition Mt. Ridgeline with a 7 person group from HAZ, fulfilling a long time goal. On this hike, Siphon Draw was the descent off the mountain, after starting out at Carney Springs TH. This is an extremely strenuous hike involving much route-finding, offering great rewards for very experienced hikers!

This is simply the most kick-butt hike in the Phoenix area. The trail rises 2,800 feet in 2.5 miles, most of it in the last mile. No switchbacks, straight up! There is some hand-and-foot scrambling near the top, and the "trail" above the waterfall area is marked by white paint spots and arrows, but nevertheless difficult to find at times.

The view of the Valley of the Sun from the top is stunning and worth all the work you spend getting up there. Watch out for the sharp spines of the century plants up there. They don't give way to an errant leg or arm.
