Forbes Hill, Quincy, as seen from Quincy Quarry. Forbes Hill is geographically part of the Quincy Hills but of little interest to hikers as it is entirely developed. There is a public park (baseball field etc) at the top, and the tower provides good views.
The turreted stone tower conceals a steel water tank ("standpipe") which I believe has been unused since the opening of the Quabbin reservoir. The masonry facade was completed in July 1904 at a cost ("exclusive of engineering") of $26,120 and consists, naturally, of Quincy granite.
