SNOW!!!!!!!!  Sucess!

Tons of snow, It was very windy and the trail was windblown with drifts that I had to negotiate. The snow was about 12 inches deep and the drifts were a lot more than that. Kadee told that when I hit the last part of the hike to make sure to NOT take the ridge. Well I saw some Chuckars on the ridge and decided I needed to follow them to get some pics. after all how bad could the ridge be with 12 inches of snow on it. "note to self" Don't take the ridge in the snow!!!! I ended up backtracking to the tower and taking the trail. It was still very slippery and I fell ALOT. On top was awesome, the view was Great!

The final pitch is more fun off the trail, stick the ridge for some fun.

Re: Charged by bison on Frary Peak Trail.

Same thing happened to me. Here's the log entry:
Buffaloed

Date: Jun 4, 2006

3 of us were stopped by a huge bull buffalo who took exception to us being on his mountain. We were about 1/4 of a mile from the top when this happened. He actually chased two of us back down the trail (I was almost run over by these two who were ahead of me as they were being chased by the bull) We snuck back up above the critter but he was watching our every move. Exciting but no pics as I had my camera in my day pack at the time this all happened. I'll finish Frary another day.

Note: I went back and got it last year as posted in log entry. I hope you got some that you can post. ; )

Bugs!  Sucess!

A great hike, but tons of bugs. I loved the views from the summit. I had a beautiful day for this peak and could see for miles. The flowers were out and were beautiful also.

Snowboarding on Frary Peak  Sucess!

After looking out my office window toward Frary Peak for three straight months debating with my coworkers whether or not you could ski/snowboard down it, I finally lugged my board up to the radio tower/antenna thing just below the summit ridge and rode it down after summitting. I had to stop a few times because it flattened out, though. Overall I couldn't recommended it, but it was still enjoyable. There was a ton of snow on the mountain and the day was clear and hot. The summit ridge was pretty sketchy - crampons were very helpful. A trail patrol officer was waiting for me at my car when I got down, but he didn't seem to care that I had been riding (although he certainly thought it was odd). The trail was very difficult to follow in the snow.

Frary Peak Trail  Sucess!

I have climbed this little mountain many times, but doing it in the winter made it a bit challenging. Alot more snow then we thought and in some parts the snow was waist deep. I love going out to Antelope Island, its a great place to go and get away.

Not buffaloed!  Sucess!

Did somebody move the buffalo??? Back in 2001, all the
buffalo were grazing in one spot, well to the southeast
of Frary Peak. This allowed my nephew & I to climb it
without a worry. Great views from this pleasant summit.

Nice Autumn Day  Sucess!

Climbed via the standard trail on a super nice day in November. Needed to get away from things for a few hours and breath some fresh air. The trail is really great and the views from the island are cool.

Snow  Sucess!

Climbed with my father and my son Kessler. Last section was suprisingly challenging with all the new snow. I believe 8" fell on the peak. Lots of buffalo were seen. Well over 100 I believe.

Only one on the mtn  Sucess!

I was surprised not to see anyone else on this rather popular hike today. Of course, thunderstorms threatened the area and that probably kept others away. I was up and part way down before the thunderstorms rolled in. A great hike and I saw two deer, two proghorn antelope and one lonely buffalo. The BM on top dated back to 1892, one of the oldest I had seen (updated by a newer BM)

Still a little snow  Sucess!

Climbed this peak on a rather cold April morning. Saw some big (bison) and little (rabbits, etc..) wildlife along the way.

Nice alternative  Sucess!

This was a very enjoyable hike, made harder by carrying a 2 year old in my pack most of the way. The last section was slick with the new snow, but fun. Would like to have done the final ridge, but recently broke my collar bone and kinda didn't want to use my arm at all. Really great views especially to the west.

Nice Trail  Sucess!

Came up here in March, but couldn't get to the peak. Had no Idea the trail went down after the radio tower!

Frary Peak Trail  Sucess!

Great trail. I can't beleive the amount of wildlife, the hike is worth it for that alone.

One of my favorite hikes  Sucess!

Although the height of Frary peak pales in comparison to the nearby Wasatch mountains, this is one of my favorite hikes due to the beautiful scenery, wildlife and the variety of microenvironments Antelope Island offers. The hike is best in winter or early spring; worse than the heat, biting midges (aka "no-see-ums") make the trail very uncomfortable in summer and early fall. I've seen Buffalo, snakes, small lizards, tarantulas, rabbits, grouse, bumblebees, and many varieties of birds along this trail. The seemingly innocuous ridgeline to Frary peak will definitely give you an adrenaline rush, should you choose to take this route. I would also highly recommend the hike out to Elephant Head on an early spring morning.
