Gable from the south

Gable from the south

Viewed from our return route to Slide Lake. Two impressive horizontal rock bands strip across the steep summit wall. By following the lower of the two all the way to left, it leads to the small tan sub-summit (kind of difficult to make out, enlarge for a better look) that we aimed for on our ascent. The route comes from out-of-frame to the left (after climbing up to the east of a waterfall on Otatso Creek), and ascends a scree ramp that leads to the slopes below and to the left of the sub-summit. A solid ridge top is encountered, and the remainder of the route up the south face becomes obvious from this point. June 16, 2012
