Gentian flowers

Gentian flowers

I'm not sure, but this could be yellow gentian (Gentiana lutea) with withered flowers. Growing along the trail to Bobotov Kuk. 13 Aug 2016.

Re: Flower

The two tall plants with ribbed, spirally-arranged leaves? They're veratrum species (and therefore poisonous).

Re: Flower

Thanks, to both of you. I checked out both suggestions, and I now think it is indeed a Veratrum; probably Veratrum album, since that's native to Europe.

Coincidentally, the Wikipedia article mentions they are often confused with yellow gentian, Gentiana lutea; just like I did!
