I can completely......appreciate your comment about how Gilpin is beautiful from a distance. It sure is! I felt the same way last year about the view west from Blue Lakes Pass. Just an incredibly beautiful view. Then the next day I hiked up towards T0, etc. What an ugly choss pile of a mountian. Looks like Gilpin (and a lot of other San Juan peaks) is the same way up close.

Seriously...clawing my way up the talus in the dry north couloir left me asking myself what in the heck fire am I doing?!?! Lord, that route was rotten!!!
