Gilpin Peak Rock Glacier

Gilpin Peak Rock Glacier

The Gilpin Peak Rock Glacier. Note the wide area in which the rock glacier receives talus. Many ridges, furrows and a steep frontal slope indicate this is an active rock glacier. Glacier erratic is also common in this area, which suggests that it was glacially derived. Image modified by author (Google Earth, 1998).
