Southwest Ridge
Little did Gimpilator know that I had summited Goat Peak via the southwest ridge only five days earlier than his visit. We each had figured out the same route... but the heat in-between our visits melted many of my tracks away so he did not know anyone else had tried the same approach. I really enjoyed this route and peak.
In fact, I spotted and reported a fire to the Methow Valley Ranger Station from the summit, proving that this is a great destination to spot fire outbreaks. Unfortunately, I later discovered that this is also the first year that a full-time lookout will not be stationed atop Goat Peak; "Lightning Bill" had to find new employment atop Mount Leecher. :-(
