Golden Gate Bridge from the Tiburon Uplands

The bridge just celebrated it's 75th anniversary on May 27 with horizontal fireworks shooting across the span. At the 50th anniversary an unexpected 800,000 people (50,000 were anticipated) packed the roadway lowering it almost 10 feet at midspan and stretching the supporting cables like harp strings. The situation was compounded by 17 mph winds making the bridge sway back and forth creating panic, nausea and claustrophobia among the dense crowd. March '12
