Goldenrod (?), Isle Royale

I couldn't find this flower in my reference books, so any help with identification would be appreciated. The alternating leaves are confounding my identification. Isle Royale, August 2007.

Solidago sp.

(a bit dessicated, or maybe my monitor has a greyish tinge)

Seems plausible. I see there are 80 types world wide, and 8-10 around Lake Superior.

But none of the sources (see album) lists goldenrods as being found on Isle Royale. Should this bother me?

As for the dessication, I'm sure you're right; the region is in the middle of a drought.

It's hard to imagine a source that lists every island where a plant species can be found, or all the plants that can be found on a given island, even a large park like Isle Royale. There are simply too many plants and too many islands.
Goldenrod seeds travel easily; the 20 miles or so of open water around Isle Royale would be no obstacle at all.

I have both kinds of sources: where X is found, and what is found on Isle Royale. The book & NPS for ISRO both fail to list any members of the goldenrod family.

But the point about traveling seeds makes sense. These were seen about 20 miles from the Ontario shore (NW end of ISRO).
