FYI, Handie's Peak can be accessed easily via Grouse Gulch northeast of Silverton on the Animas River. This trailhead is 1.5 hours from Durango. Also, the trailhead to Engineer Mountain begins on Coal Bank Pass. Nice photos, it looks like you had a great trip!
Took the words right out of my mouth. I just happened to write the route info on here for Grouse Gulch for Handies. I think I've done it 5 times car to car from Cortez.
