Route Climbed: Summit Ridge via Graveyard Lakes  Sucess!

Good dayhike out of Mono Creek. Scenic Graveyard lakes may be worth the trip alone. Good scrambling almost the whole way to the summit...no wind and not a cloud in the sky, great day.

South Ridge

Great day hike up to Devil's Bathtub but got a late start on the trail (Edison Lake was much further than I thought). Climbed the south ridge from Devil's bathtub. It's a long class 2 slog with brush whacking and boulder hoping the whole way up. Reached my turnaround time about 10,900'(600' to go). Have no interest in doing that route again.

Southern summit from Devils Bathtub Lake  Sucess!

About two hours up from the southern tip of the Devils Bathtub Lake, and another hour and a half to get back. Simple class 2 to the (lower) southern summit. With sodapants and Mirna.

Stupid Scout Tricks  Sucess!

Heavy winter snows still clung to the face above Anne and Peter Pande Lake. Our troop was camped to the east and above both lakes on a ridge next to what became known as Lake Anne Beth Saba. Tom Pyle, John Sweet, and myself set out to traverse the ridge above the lakes to Graveyard Peak. We encountered heavy snow on the face that still hadn't metlted away for the season. We traveresed high on the snow slope very carefully (Class IV) without a rope, no axes or pro, and wearing just hiking boots. We made the first window and moved on to rock for the final summit scramble. We stood on the summit and threw rocks down into the frozen ponds below. Finally bored with ourselves, we made our way back to camp. All in all, a great and memorable trip. Oh to be 14 again.

bummer

On a solo trip, I tried to do the knife-edge between Silver Peak and Graveyard peak, but got scared. The rocks are quite unstable up there. But the view was nice.

Route Climbed: Summit ridge traverse (ascent) / NE Ridge (descent) Date Climbed: Oct 9, 2005  Sucess!

The peak doesn't look all that impressive from Graveyard Lakes, but the scrambling along the summit ridge and NE ridge was excellent--airy, good rock, and great fun.
