I can seewhy this is one of your favorites. The lighting is great and the shadow line draws you in.

So right!Walking back down the dunes I showed this shot to a friend on the camera's lcd and he declared it pretty good for a PnS. Thanks for the compliment!

Re: So right! It is a great image, P&S notwithstanding. In fact, I always say good shots are in the eye of the photographer, not in the gear in his/her bag. BTW: My top-rated SP shot is also at Great Sand Dunes--wonderful place to visit! --mark d.

Re: So right! Thanks Mark! Your words express what photos mean to me also. I notice that you are in Scouting also. The Great Sands trip and many of my other out west photos were taken with our troop's Venture Patrol's rafting/sightseeing trip last summer and previous trips to Idaho, Montana and New England. Thanks again!---Kathy

Re: So right!Yes, Kathy, I'm very heavy into Scouting. And photography. I love it when sometimes the two come together--check out pages 18-19 of the March-April '08 issue of Scouting magazine to see what I mean. ;-) --mark d.

Re: So right!Woo Hoo! Grand Prize! Quite a picture and an honor! The closest I've come to anything in Scouting magazine is to take our Venture Patrol on the trip on the Salmon and Snake Rivers described in the May/June 2003 issue. It was great but our trip on the Arkansas this past July was 10x better! I'm thinking of doing an album on mountains viewed from rivers.

wow!!I've never seen a photo where the dune looks so plasticized. It's incredible.....looks surreal. Fabulous work there. :)

Re: wow!!Thanks! We really lucked out arriving the night before in a rainstorm. But the next morning when we hiked up the dune, the sand was still very damp and unusually stable. Most in our group didn't realize how unique it all was! Thanks again! Kathy

Like1. I like it very much - or actually love it - like the others.
2. To me, it looks like a state-of-the-art screening of Frank Herbert's Dune.
