Grizzly track

Grizzly track

A couple of us smelled this grizzly before we saw this footprint; we never saw it. This print, and a few others, were on the Ribbon Lake Trail south of Canyon, just east of the stretch of "wild" thermal features. Shortly after this footprint, we had an encounter with a grumpy bull bison. All in all, a successful outing on a rainy day! June 2009.

Re: Grizzly Track

Ribbon Lake Trail goes from the Wapiti TH to Artist's Point. I'd recommend starting at Wapiti TH, which you'll see just after you cross the Chittenden Bridge over the Yellowstone River. There are lots of junctions, bring a map.

After Ribbon Lake, you ascend briefly to a "wild" part of the Canyon (no rails, and often no people). You see the Canyon as the early explorers saw it.

Then walk along the Rim to Artist's Point and get slapped in the face by tourons. From Artist's point, you can return via the South Rim or just walk the road back to Wapiti TH.
