Introduction
I got the opportunity to hike Guadalupe Peak the high point of Texas while in San Antonio on a work related trip in the summer of 2014. I was off for the July 4th holiday and made the 8 hour drive to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Started about 4am and arrived about 12pm.
At a rest stop the attendant caught this furry little creature:
Arriving at noon it was way too hot to hike the peak today, so I set up at the campground and went on a short hike.

The hike was relatively uneventful, but Beautiful!!! Started around 6am to beat the heat of the desert. It is about 8 miles round trip. The views of clouds and sun were amazing near and on the summit. Here are some images:

Conclusion
Being that I am new to summit post, this was my first trip report. I tried to be brief, for the images speak for themselves. I do highly recommend Guadalupe Mountains National Park for any avid hiker that happens to be in the area. It is a long way from any major city, but it was worth it!
El Capitan from the drive out of the park. Fair well West Texas!
