My second time to summit this great peak. Me and two others climbed late afternoon to witness the best sunset I've seen to date. The day was perfect with temps in the 60's and NO wind!
SOLO CLIMB RETURNING FROM PANAMA CANAL CRUISE OUT OF GALVESTON BEAUTIFUL WEATHER WITH FEW SNOW PATCHES IN SHADED AREAS
Guadalupe Peak was beautiful once again. The weather was perfect and made for and great hike. Camped on the trail just below the peak and decended the next morning.
My first time to the highest point in Texas but not my last. Up and down in one day.
Excellent views of the Texas prairie. A unique climb.
My wife and I took our time up the mountain on a beautiful day. Views from the top can't be beat in Texas. It's amazing how far away you can spot the peak from the east, it's easy to see how it became such a landmark.
Loved this climb! Excellent trail, great views and a cool summit marker! Check out our climbing report with pics at Natural Born Hikers-Guadalupe Peak
When I worked at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, this was a great place to get in my peak-bagging fixes. I probably hiked up to the summit 5 times. It's a great hike.
Happy Halloween! Camped @ the primitive campsite. A beautiful day on the summit. My 5th State Highpoint.
My wife & I flew out to celebrate her 30th Birthday. We summited with our 6 month old son, beautiful day. Went to Carlsbad Caverns on the 28, a must if your in the area. To Avoid the crowds enter through the natural entrance.
We camped at Pine Springs in Guadalupe Mountains NP. It was windy at night, about 65 mph.
We camped at the high camp. Winds were over 100mph at camp. Tent broke during the night. Summit was nice, clear day.
My girlfriend (wife now) and I camped up in the bowl the previous night and then headed back down to the car for the drive home to ABQ. On the hike down I made the decision that I was going to hike to Guadalupe's summit and then start collecting state HPs. I actually ended up running the trail up and down to beat a storm, but more importantly to make it back home in time for the IA Hawkeye NCAA tourney game. I really enjoyed the time in the park, and hope to get back soon!
This was a hike that had it all - desert sun and spring flowers below, evergreens and icy winds on the way up. The summit view was hard rock and velvet desert floor. I recommend the side trip to Devil's Hall on the way down for those seeking more wonders. Saw an animal there I did not even know existed - later found out it was a ringtail.
Hiked with Paul on a very warm, clear sunny day. Couldn't believe the ladybugs! Neat! Nice views from the top. Headed to Carlsbad Caverns from there. Great trip! HP #29--woo hoo!
This was the one that got me hooked on climbing!
After one night at Pine Springs Campground, we (Hilda, Laurent and me) hiked to the top of Texas with fantastic views and clear skies.
I tried my new Koflach Degre boots and they were comfy. We made it up in 2h 15mins and down 1h 45mins. I was carrying a 60 lb. backpack which slowed me down quite a bit. Good workout!
What a beautiful hike...got up at sunrise and hit the trail. First attempt two months before, I just wasn't in good enough shape...now I love my stairmaster.
And what a bonus...just as I arrived at the summit, it snowed (not in the scary way). Comin' back to take a coupla friends up GP on May 19th. This was my first state highpoint...and will be theirs.
fun hike, with a superb view, hoping to take another trip out there soon, one of my favorite parks!
great spring hike. Good views- mainly were curious about the snow covered peak in the distance- Sierra Blanca- climbed it the next day.
