Must be a lot further south

58 degrees needs to be about 36 or so.

Re: Must be a lot further south

Strange-- I didn't even enter coordinates for that page and usually don't for route pages. And I just discovered another recent route I posted was near the Equator.

chimney rope

On ascent, the TOP portion of that crack has a tunnel to avoid the chockstone at the top of the crack. The tunnel is very obvious and often has a rap station anchored on the bushes above it. Without the chockstone by-pass the upper part of that crack is really nasty -- wide for short people.

I hate carrying rope, so I take the absolute minimum for this rap: 100' of off-the-spool 8mm Sterling static, with two 6'pieces of 5.5mm polyester. 100' alone works; the drop distance is about 40', but with the diagonal, 50' double strand will barely give the fireman belayer enough to hold to protect the next in line -- that's why I put the extra 5.5mm pieces on the ends WITH VERY SECURE KNOTS.

Don B has simply downclimbed this stretch-- too full of lichen for me.
